Ask HN: Want to keep my software engineering skills sharp(ycombinator.com) I currently started work as a data analyst. For a data analyst, the work is quite programming heavy actually (e.g. we don't use Excel but Jupyter). But for a software engineer, the amount of programming feels low. It's more like creating quick scripts.
Graduate Degrees Are Overrated(lemire.me) Though I have many brilliant graduate students, I love working with undergraduate students. And I am not at all sure that you should favor people with graduate degrees, given a choice. Many graduate students tend to favor abstraction over practical skills. They often have an idealized view of the world. Moreover, these students are often consumed by research projects, theses, or dissertations, and the publication of scientific articles, which limits their time for concrete actions.
Do programmers need touch typing?(hakanserce.com) Touch typing (also called touch type or touch keyboarding) is typing without using the sense of sight to find the keys. Specifically, a touch typist will know their location on the keyboard through muscle memory. (Wikipedia)
