Ask HN: How does one negotiate for a remote job? (ycombinator.com)
Asking for a friend who is interviewing right now: for life reasons he would really appreciate a fully remote job. Do you think prospective employers/hiring managers have fixed remote policies or is there flexibility if they're willing to give up some compensation? Is there an approach that is better than just asking directly?
Ask HN: What job search strategies work for you? (ycombinator.com)
I’ve been laid off since June and have not been getting responses from most of my applications other than denials. I have 10+ years mostly Ruby/React/JS. New just working on a side project (job listing scraper) but curious what is working well for you? Specific apps or strategies that lead to your hiring?

Need help to go back to job market (ycombinator.com)
Hi all kind fellow developers, I got laidoff last year as a ruby on rails developer, now I want to prepare for some job interviews. Since I have been traveling and trying all kinds of new things, although I have 5 years of experience as a Ruby on Rails developer, I feel like I forget everything as a developer.. Any book or website that can help me kickoff and make my old memories back?
Ask HN: How to get to interview prep and return to work after long career gap? (ycombinator.com)
It seems very daunting and fruitless exercise (fruitless in the sense that why to go for those leetcoding and studying standard design questions that will never be used).
I am a mobile/Android developer. There was a general layoff at my last workplace and I was so burnt out I could not bring myself to look for jobs right then. First four months were actually good and I indeed needed that break. Then the delays kept stacking up.
Ask HN: How is job search going for you? (ycombinator.com)
I left my job in 2023 voluntarily after immense harassment by management for taking paternity leave. I needed it since our baby birth and first few months did not go as we expected. Company had 6 months of parental leave policy but my manager (a woman!) still discriminated. Our baby is fine now and growing well.
I took 6 months off and then started working on my own project that turned into a startup.

Things I learned interviewing for Staff positions (2020) (amyunger.com)
I recently completed an either 9 month or 2 month search for a new job, looking for Staff-level engineering positions for the first time in my career. I live-snarked much of the process on Twitter and heard that was helpful to some folks who are also thinking about starting their first Staff-level search.
Ask HN: How long to stay in a role to avoid being considered a "job hopper"? (ycombinator.com)
It really depends on the industry. These are opinions, but for a seat-of-the-pants dev job like a web developer, at least a year is fine, with the occasional longer stint of 3-5 years recommended so it shows that you are capable of having a little patience and can own the full product lifecycle.

How well do LeetCode ratings predict interview performance? Here's the data (interviewing.io)
Have you ever wondered if you should spend more time on LeetCode, participate in those contests, or focus on solving harder problems? To answer these questions and more, we looked at our users' LeetCode ranks and ratings and tied them back to interview performance on our platform and whether those users worked at FAANG.
