The netbook era has come and gone, but I am one of the many people who miss small form factor laptops (12” or smaller), and I’ve found it somewhat frustrating that they’ve been nowhere to be found in mainstream offerings.

Cheap mini PCs have gotten good (world.hey.com)
For the past week, I've been working off the Minisforum UM870. A tiny mini PC with an 8-core/16-thread AMD 8745H CPU, which retails for $343 (or €379) as a bare-bone unit, and stays below $550, even after adding 48GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. I'm shocked to report that I really don't need more than this!
Ask HN: How do you like the Framework matte screen? (ycombinator.com)
It's about time for me to upgrade my laptop, and I'm leaning towards Framework, but I hate matte screens. I love my Dell XPS 4k glossy Oled: crisp, clear, accurate colors, and most importantly, no huge blob of diffused light across half of the screen when I'm outside.

About a week ago I bought a Comma 3X from comma.ai, based on seeing a bunch of quite glowing reviews of it (and other FSD systems) from a number of car and tech reviewers I trust.

Why I'll Never Buy an Asus Laptop Again (ycombinator.com)
When I first bought my ASUS VivoBook K15 OLED, I was excited. It looked beautiful, felt solid, and the OLED display was stunning. On paper, it seemed like a great value for the price — a laptop that could handle my work, my creative projects, and casual use without breaking a sweat. I was optimistic. Maybe even a little proud of the purchase.

V-Color 96GB DDR5-5600 48GB X2 ECC Udimm Kit Quick Look (servethehome.com)
A few weeks ago we took a quick look at the Micron 32GB DDR5-5600 ECC UDIMM Kit. We saw in the comments that folks recommended the V-Color 96GB kit. The kit came with two 48GB ECC UDIMMs for 96GB total. We paid $399 for the two DIMM kit. This is more than many non-ECC UDIMMs, but since the 32GB Micron ECC UDIMMs are $220 each, this V-Color kit offers more capacity at a lower cost.
A balanced review of Math Academy (ozwrites.com)
I haven’t written in a couple of months as we had another baby (kid #3, a boy) in January. So far he really likes it when we vacuum or play Metallica… not sure what that says about his personality but at least the house is clean. Also I’m still working on a major update to teachyourselfcs.com so please keep your helpful suggestions coming!

It’s hard to overstate just how much my opinion on Gumroad has changed since the beginning of 2025. I’m not mad, just disappointed. Incredibly disappointed.
