My tips on giving technical talks(marcusnoble.co.uk) I've been giving talks at meetups and conferences for a few years now. I started off after the encouragement of my friends giving their own talk and looking so cool doing it! It's taken a while but I think I'm at a stage now where I'm not only good at it (at least I hope so 😅) but I feel confident and comfortable while doing it.

Nim at FOSDEM – frequently asked questions (2018)(peterme.net) Nim recently had a stand at FOSDEM 2018. It was lot's of fun meeting up with all the people whom I've only gotten to know by their IRC nicknames. And very interesting to help out at the stand telling people about Nim.

Why Choose to Use the BSDs in 2025(dragas.net) This is the text underlying my presentation at OSDay 2025, held on 21 March 2025 in Florence, Italy. There was limited time, so I couldn't go into much detail and had to keep things more general and structured than usual. You can watch the video of my talk on YouTube.

The cultural divide between mathematics and AI(sugaku.net) This January, I attended the Joint Mathematics Meeting (JMM), themed "We Decide Our Future: Mathematics in the Age of AI." It was a veritable buffet of talks and connections, and I found myself rushing across the convention hall to go between sessions in fields I'm close to (eg: modular forms), new areas I was delighted to dig into (eg: knowledge graphs), and the many talks on AI for math.
Sovereign Lumber(plainopen.com) Two talks that stood out for me at 2024 Open Source Experience conference in December were by Emily Omier, with the software analogy to lumber and chairs, and by Jutta Horstmann on software sovereignty in Europe being more urgent than ever. These connected strongly in my mind, and hit at the essence of what’s missing in the open source ecosystem today.
